I found this podcast while looking for background on Newsies. I liked that you incorporated the news article about the boys in your podcast. Nice job. Perhaps the writer of Newsie chose Pulitzer over Hearst as the antagonist because of the name of his paper, the World. So, when the newsies sing "the world will know" this has a double meaning. For a future project, please consider the movie "Bernie" (2011) starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, & Matthew McConaughey. Thank you for all your efforts!

I've often wondered when I watch a movie that claims to be based on a true story, just how accurate that claim truly is and Dan answers that question. He does extensive research and fills in the holes or reveals what actually happened and what Hollywood has taken liberties with. He does this in an engaging and entertaining way and the production is amazing! I also love the opening segment that requires listener comprehension: Two true statements and one false statement about the topic and you have to figure out which one is false. Very fun! Highly recommend!

This is one of my rare not anything to do with crime podcasts that I listen to and I recommend to everyone.

So glad I stumbled upon Dan's podcast. As an avid historical fiction reader, a big fan of films/tv shows that are "based on a true story", and a huge podcast listener, this is my dream podcast. Dan delivers content in a very engaging manner, is very entertaining, and produces a top quality audio. Can't wait for the next episode! Thanks Dan for what you do. Keep on messagin'

What's not to like about this podcast? Smart, interesting concept presented with not only professional polish, but sincerity and a high entertainment quotient. I'm binging all past episodes, and just can't get enough.

BOATS is so much more than a movie podcast. Dan puts in a level of research that I've never seen from any other film show, and his delivery of the facts is so engaging and fun to listen to. It's been a wonderful addition to my playlist!

I often wondered when watching a movie that's based on a true story just how much of it was actually true. Now I no longer have to wonder. The host of this podcast obviously does his research & explains what is or isn't true in movies that are supposedly based on a true story. I've learn a lot about the people in each of these movies, more then I ever did when watching the actual movie! I highly recommend this podcast to anyone who wants to learn the truth rather then just accepting Hollywood's version of the truth. Keep up the great work & podcast on!!

If you know me at all, which I don't think many of you do, but if you do you'll know that whenever I watch a movie that is 'Based on a true story', I spend half the time googling the accuracy of the film. I am a huge history fan, and love knowing the actual reality of the events behind the blockbusters. Dan satisfies that part of me so completely, that I've come to take his word as true gospel. He could tell me that the sky was yellow and I wouldn't even feel the need to fact check. Not only is he committed to giving us the truth behind every story he covers, he does it in an engrossing way. I love the 2 truths and a lie he starts every episode on, and even with movies I've seen a million times and looked into myself (like a certain Disney warrior princess for example) I find myself leaving every episode more informed than when I started it. Good work my man, keep it up!

Dan tells a great story about the story behind semi-truth based movies. He gives the creators a very wide berth and identifies divergence from true events with a lot of tolerance (probably more than I would sometimes). If you like movies, but are curious/skeptical of the truth behind many so-called true stories, this is well done and entertaining podcast.

I frequently listen to podcasts on the way to and from work and really enjoy the BASED ON A TRUE STORY. I've listened to a lot of them and can say they have all held my interest and I've taken pleasure in each one. When I hear a story whose movie I haven't seen, it really lures me in to wanting to watch that movie. (Some of them are hard to track down!) If it's a movie that I have already seen, I find it fascinating to learn what was the truth and what was Hollywood's "take" on the events. Sometimes, I'll want to go back and rewatch that movie now that I know what really happened. Great podcast! Thanks so much, Dan! Appreciate all the work you do behind the scenes to entertain and inform us. Keep up the good work!

Dan's voice and the wealth of information in this podcast are so gratifying to listen to. I cannot suggest this podcast more highly, my favorite so far is the Life Before Mickey episode. It is choice. Shout out to the OKC Podcast Community for showing me this podcast and that there are great podcasts within my own state.

I listen to a lot of podcasts every week, and this one is my favorite. It's very well researched and well executed. Even if you haven't seen the movie discussed in the episode you still hear a great story with plenty of interesting information. New episodes are posted early every Monday morning and it's always the first podcast I check for to start my week.

I like the show because it's always good. I learn something New each time I listen. The material is presented in a concise, engaging and interesting manner. I also appreciate that I can listen with my kids.

I love movies, and movies based on true stories are definitely in my wheelhouse. Dan's show is very well produced and informative. I love hearing some of the (often crazier) stories that inspired some of my favorite movies (Catch Me if You Can is ridiculous). I also love that the show is a perfect length for my 20-30 minute commute, so I can squeeze a couple of episodes in every day. Great work Dan, keep it up!

This retired librarian appreciates the amount of research that goes into each podcast to compare the real story to the movie plot. I especially like the way everything is explained in a short period of time. No fillers, no chats, nothing extraneous. The amount of detail is superb. I'm glad I found this podcast. Keep up the excellent work.
